A rare ginger monkey has been born at an Aussie zoo in the past week, and has managed to toddle its way into the public eye…
…Because its mother told it to sling it’s ginger hook.
The primate was rejected by its mother at Taronga Zoo, Sydney. As a result, ol’ carrot top is being hand-raised by staff.
“Primates are quite an intelligent group of animals, a lot of their social development depends on learning,” senior primate keeper Mandy Mclellan said.
“Often first time mums might not have have enough exposure to other females giving birth so they haven’t learned social skills and haven’t learned what they need to do with these little babies.”
What Ms Meclellan is trying to say is that its natural for mothers to want to rid themselves of their ginger burdens, and it isn’t until they had sufficing social contact that they realise discarding your newborn as a result of its gingivitis is generally frowned upon.
‘Keepers will raise Elka for many months, feeding her baby formula every three hours, and prepare her for reintroduction to her parents.’
Reintroduction after a ginger hate induced rejection? Awkwaaaaard.
Officials have been quick to denounce Elka’s actions for fear of copy cat ditchings, parents finally realising that being ginger isn’t acceptable and casting aside their fiery haired offspring to fend for themselves.
After all, no one loves a ginger baby. Its the Russian roulette of maternity. Besides, who can name me a famous carrot tops anyway? Well, unless you count Ron Howard or the ugly one from Girls Aloud.
